about

made w/ monome norns, teenage engineering opz, ableton & max4live

"Soupy, brain burning modular convulsions, oscillating rhythms and muddy atonal industrial noise vignettess that consider the emptiness of sci-fi and the corruption of harmless things. Bonkers and brilliant.

Don't expect any cutebient or modular snoozedrone here, Glia has other things in mind, and rakes each braincell over hot coals on the confounding 'Totokia'. The album is fixated on concepts of appropriation, with the name referencing a Fijian club that George Lucas used as a weapon for Star Wars' Tuskan Raiders.Totokia were carved to mimic the appearance of fruit, and Glia uses this to explore how natural beauty can be inverted, exploring the idea of art and artifice. The tracks imagine what Tusken music might sound like, rattling uneasily with squelching percussion, processed noise and nauseous Radiophonic synth bleeps.

It's one of the most uncompromising slices of out sound we've heard in a minute, teeming with life, purpose and texture. Imagine a mix of high-BPM club music sped up to dense blur, chopped by Delia Derbyshire and piped thru her FX chain before being re-composed using modeling synthesizers. Yeah it's really on a wave, and we love it." - BOOMKAT
